Day 1 — USA – Ireland

Departure from your selected airport for our overnight transatlantic flight to Dublin, Ireland.

As our pilgrimage begins, we entrust the journey to God and prepare to discover a land whose saints and missionaries played an extraordinary role in preserving and spreading Christianity throughout Europe.

Day 2 — Arrival in Dublin

Welcome to Ireland!

Upon arrival at Dublin International Airport, we will meet our local representative and transfer into the Irish capital.

Our introduction to Dublin will combine its cultural heritage with the story of Christianity in Ireland. We will discover places associated with St. Patrick, the great missionary bishop and patron saint of Ireland.

Among our visits will be St. Patrick’s Cathedral, traditionally associated with the site where St. Patrick baptized converts to Christianity, and historic Christ Church Cathedral.

We will also visit St. Mary’s Pro-Cathedral, the principal Catholic church of Dublin and seat of the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Dublin, where Holy Mass may be celebrated according to availability.

Welcome dinner and overnight in Dublin.

Day 3 — Dublin – Glendalough – Dublin: St. Kevin & Celtic Monasticism

After breakfast, we travel into the beautiful Wicklow Mountains to Glendalough, the “Valley of the Two Lakes.”

Here, St. Kevin established a monastic community in the 6th century. What began as a life of solitude and prayer eventually developed into one of Ireland’s most important early Christian centers.

Walking among its ancient churches, Celtic crosses, cemetery and famous Round Tower, we will discover the remarkable world of Irish monastic Christianity.

There will be time for silence and personal prayer surrounded by the lakes and mountains that drew generations of monks to this place.

Holy Mass will be arranged in the area whenever possible.

Return to Dublin.

Day 4 — Dublin – Knock: Our Lady of Knock

Today we travel west toward one of the spiritual centers of our pilgrimage: the National Shrine of Our Lady of Knock.

On the evening of August 21, 1879, fifteen people witnessed an extraordinary silent apparition beside the parish church. They described Our Lady, St. Joseph and St. John the Evangelist, together with an altar bearing a Lamb and a Cross.

Unlike many Marian apparitions, no words were spoken. The profoundly Eucharistic imagery of the Lamb upon the altar has become one of the most distinctive aspects of the spirituality of Knock.

We will visit the Apparition Chapel and Basilica, celebrate Holy Mass, and have time for personal prayer.

The remainder of the day provides an opportunity for Confession, the Rosary, Eucharistic Adoration and quiet reflection.

Day 5 — Knock – Galway – Cliffs of Moher – Limerick

After breakfast, we continue through western Ireland toward Galway.

We will discover this lively historic city and visit its Catholic cathedral before continuing along Ireland’s spectacular Atlantic landscape.

Our journey then brings us to the magnificent Cliffs of Moher, rising dramatically above the Atlantic Ocean. There will be time to walk and contemplate one of Ireland’s greatest natural landscapes.

From here we continue toward Limerick.

Day 6 — Limerick – Rock of Cashel – Cork: In the Footsteps of St. Patrick

Today we visit one of the great symbols of Christian Ireland: the Rock of Cashel.

For centuries associated with the kings of Munster, Cashel became an important center of Irish Christianity. Tradition connects the site with St. Patrick and the conversion of King Aengus, making it an especially evocative place for reflecting upon the Christianization of Ireland.

We will explore the extraordinary medieval complex and its cathedral, chapel, crosses and towers.

Holy Mass will be arranged at a nearby church according to availability.

We then continue south to Cork, where we will enjoy an introduction to the historic city center.

Day 7 — Cork – Waterford – Wexford – Dublin

Our pilgrimage continues through southern and southeastern Ireland.

We travel through Waterford, Ireland’s oldest city, whose history stretches back to the Viking period and which later became an important center of medieval Christianity.

We will also discover Wexford and the religious heritage of southeastern Ireland, a region whose Catholic communities endured some particularly difficult chapters of Irish history.

Holy Mass will be celebrated along our route whenever possible.

In the afternoon, we return to Dublin.

Day 8 — Monasterboice – Armagh: St. Patrick & the Ancient Irish Church

Our final full day takes us deep into the origins of Christian Ireland.

We begin at Monasterboice, an early Christian monastic settlement founded around the 5th century.

Here we encounter some of Ireland’s most extraordinary High Crosses, including Muiredach’s Cross, whose biblical scenes carved into stone helped communicate the story of salvation in medieval Ireland.

We then continue north, crossing into Northern Ireland, to Armagh, the city most closely associated with the ecclesiastical legacy of St. Patrick.

According to tradition, Patrick established his principal church here, and Armagh subsequently became the spiritual capital of Irish Christianity.

We will visit St. Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral and reflect upon the extraordinary legacy of the missionary whose work transformed Ireland and whose spiritual descendants would eventually carry Christianity from Ireland back across Europe.

We will celebrate our concluding Holy Mass, giving thanks for the graces received throughout our pilgrimage.

Return to Dublin for a special farewell dinner.

Day 9 — Dublin – USA

After breakfast, transfer to Dublin International Airport for our return flight to the United States.

We return home carrying with us the witness of St. Patrick, St. Kevin, the Irish monks and missionaries, the generations who preserved the Catholic faith through persecution, and Our Lady of Knock.

Extended Option: Ireland & Wales

From Celtic Christianity to the Ancient Christian Heritage of Wales

10 Days / 8 Nights

For groups wishing to create a more unusual pilgrimage, the itinerary can be extended or adapted to combine the Catholic heritage of Ireland with Wales.

Rather than treating Wales simply as an addition, this version can explore the wider story of Celtic Christianity—the saints, monasteries and Christian communities that developed on both sides of the Irish Sea.

The journey can include Dublin, Glendalough, Knock and Donegal before continuing toward Northern Ireland and then crossing by ferry to Wales.

In Wales, the pilgrimage can explore places associated with the country’s ancient Christian heritage and St. David, patron saint of Wales, together with historic monastic landscapes and the natural beauty of the Welsh countryside.

Possible stops include Holyhead, North Wales, Llanthony, the Brecon Beacons/Bannau Brycheiniog and Cardiff, before returning to Ireland or departing from the United Kingdom.

Important itinerary note: the Ireland–Wales routing should be finalized according to the selected ferry crossings and desired sites. The original draft’s Derry → Holyhead sequence should not be presented as a direct ferry connection; the final operational itinerary should be built around an actual ferry port and schedule.
