About This Pilgrimage
The Camino Inglés — the English Way — is one of the historic pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela, following the path once used by pilgrims who reached Galicia by sea.
During the Middle Ages, pilgrims from England, Ireland and other parts of Northern Europe sailed to the Galician coast, landing principally at the ports of Ferrol and A Coruña before continuing on foot toward the tomb of St. James the Apostle.
Today, the route from Ferrol offers a beautiful alternative to the more traveled French Way. In approximately 113 km, pilgrims experience Galicia’s maritime heritage, historic towns, forests, countryside and small communities before making their final approach to Santiago.
For American Catholic groups, the English Way is particularly attractive for those seeking a shorter but authentic walking pilgrimage, combining physical effort with prayer, fellowship and the spiritual purpose that has drawn Christians to Santiago for centuries.
The program can be adapted for parishes, families, schools, young adults and groups of different physical abilities, including the possibility of support transportation where appropriate.

Days 1 & 2 — USA – Madrid
Departure for Spain
Departure from our designated U.S. airport for our overnight flight to Madrid.
Upon arrival in Spain, we will be welcomed and transferred to our hotel. Time to rest after the international journey and prepare for the pilgrimage ahead.
Depending on flight schedules, a welcome dinner and introductory spiritual meeting may be arranged.

Day 3 — Madrid – Ferrol
Journey to the Beginning of the English Way
After breakfast, departure toward Galicia and Ferrol, the traditional starting point of the Camino Inglés for pilgrims completing the full qualifying route to Santiago.
Ferrol’s connection with the Camino comes from its historic role as a maritime gateway. Pilgrims arriving from Northern Europe would disembark on the Galician coast before continuing toward Santiago on foot.
Upon arrival, we will have time to settle into our accommodations and prepare our Pilgrim Credentials.
Depending on schedules, we may celebrate Holy Mass and enjoy a short orientation walk through Ferrol before our first walking stage.

Day 4 — Ferrol – Pontedeume
The Camino Begins
Approximately 31 km / 19 miles
Today we begin walking the Camino Inglés.
Leaving Ferrol and its maritime surroundings behind, we follow the traditional Camino markers through the landscapes of northern Galicia.
The first stage introduces us to the rhythm that will accompany us over the coming days: walking, prayer, reflection and fellowship.
Our destination is Pontedeume, an attractive historic town situated at the mouth of the Eume River.
After completing our first stage, dinner and time to rest.

Day 5 — Pontedeume – Betanzos
Medieval Galicia
Approximately 21 km / 13 miles
After breakfast, we continue our pilgrimage toward Betanzos.
Today’s stage takes us through a mixture of rural landscapes, wooded paths and small Galician communities as we gradually leave the coast behind.
Our destination, Betanzos, is one of the historic jewels of the English Way, with a medieval center that recalls the importance these towns once held for pilgrims traveling toward Santiago.
Time for rest, prayer and fellowship after completing the day’s walk.

Day 6 — Betanzos – Hospital de Bruma
Into the Galician Countryside
Approximately 31 km / 19 miles
Today we undertake one of the longest and more demanding stages of our pilgrimage.
Leaving Betanzos, the Camino takes us deeper into rural Galicia toward Hospital de Bruma, whose very name recalls the tradition of hospitality that developed along the pilgrimage routes to Santiago.
As the kilometers pass, the experience of the Camino becomes increasingly interior. Away from everyday routines, walking provides time for silence, prayer, conversation and reflection.

Day 7 — Hospital de Bruma – Sigüeiro
Santiago Draws Near
Approximately 25 km / 15.5 miles
After breakfast, we begin our penultimate walking stage.
The route continues through the characteristic green landscapes of Galicia toward Sigüeiro, the traditional final overnight stop before Santiago.
By now, we have walked together for several days, and Santiago is very close. This is an ideal moment to reflect upon the intention with which each pilgrim began the Camino and prepare spiritually for our arrival at the tomb of the Apostle.

Day 8 — Sigüeiro – Santiago de Compostela
Arrival at the Tomb of St. James
Approximately 16 km / 10 miles
The final stage.
We leave Sigüeiro and walk the remaining kilometers toward Santiago de Compostela.
Gradually, the rural Camino gives way to the outskirts of Santiago before we enter the historic city and make our way toward the magnificent Plaza del Obradoiro.
After approximately 113 km of pilgrimage, we finally stand before the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, built over the traditional resting place of St. James the Greater, Apostle of Jesus Christ.
We will have the opportunity to enter the Cathedral, pray at the tomb of St. James and participate in the Pilgrim’s Mass, according to the Cathedral’s schedule.
Pilgrims who fulfill the corresponding requirements may also request their Compostela.
The remainder of the day will allow us to enjoy Santiago, celebrate the completion of our Camino and reflect upon everything experienced along the Way.
A farewell dinner may be arranged for the group.

Day 9 — Santiago de Compostela – USA
Return Home
After breakfast, transfer to Santiago de Compostela Airport for our return journey to the United States, connecting through Madrid or another European hub depending on the selected flights.
We return home after following a route walked for centuries by pilgrims who crossed the seas of Europe to reach the tomb of St. James the Apostle.
