11 Days \/ 9 Nights | Pamplona, Javier, Leyre, Burgos, Santo Toribio de Li\u00e9bana, Covadonga, Oviedo, Santiago & More<\/strong><\/p>\n Northern Spain preserves some of the deepest roots of Christian Europe.<\/p>\n Across Navarra, Castile, Cantabria, Asturias and Galicia, monasteries, Romanesque churches, Marian sanctuaries and ancient pilgrimage roads tell the story of a faith that helped shape the spiritual and cultural identity of the continent.<\/p>\n This pilgrimage brings together some of the most remarkable Catholic sites of northern Spain.<\/p>\n We will visit Leyre<\/strong>, one of the great historic monasteries of Navarra; Javier<\/strong>, birthplace of St. Francis Xavier; Santo Domingo de Silos<\/strong>, renowned for its Benedictine tradition and Romanesque cloister; and Santo Toribio de Li\u00e9bana<\/strong>, where the Lignum Crucis<\/em> is venerated.<\/p>\n We will pray before Our Lady of Covadonga<\/strong>, visit the Holy Chamber of Oviedo Cathedral<\/strong>, home to the Holy Shroud, and finally reach Santiago de Compostela<\/strong>, where the tomb of St. James the Apostle<\/strong> has drawn pilgrims for more than a thousand years.<\/p>\n Along the way, we will also experience the Camino de Santiago, Romanesque art, medieval towns, the landscapes of the Picos de Europa and some of the most beautiful cities of northern Spain.<\/p>\n Designed especially for parishes, Catholic organizations and faith-based groups<\/strong>, this pilgrimage combines prayer, history, sacred art, culture and fellowship in a journey through one of Europe’s great Christian landscapes.<\/p>\n The monasteries of northern Spain are not simply beautiful historic buildings.<\/p>\n For centuries, they were centers of prayer, learning, hospitality, art and evangelization<\/strong>.<\/p>\n At Leyre, monks prayed while the medieval Kingdom of Navarra took shape.<\/p>\n At Santo Domingo de Silos, the Benedictine tradition continues to sanctify the hours through liturgical prayer.<\/p>\n At Santo Toribio de Li\u00e9bana, pilgrims have traveled into the mountains to venerate the Cross of Christ.<\/p>\n And along the Camino de Santiago, monasteries and religious communities welcomed pilgrims traveling toward the Apostle.<\/p>\n This pilgrimage invites us to encounter these places not simply as monuments, but as witnesses to a way of life centered upon prayer, community and the search for God<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Two saints give this journey an especially powerful missionary dimension.<\/p>\n In Javier<\/strong>, we encounter the childhood home of St. Francis Xavier<\/strong>, who would leave Navarra and travel farther than almost any missionary of his generation, preaching the Gospel in India, Southeast Asia and Japan.<\/p>\n At the end of our journey, in Santiago de Compostela<\/strong>, we reach the tomb of St. James the Apostle<\/strong>, one of the Twelve sent by Christ to proclaim the Gospel.<\/p>\n Between them stretches the history of Christian mission:<\/p>\n an Apostle sent from Jerusalem and, centuries later, a missionary from Spain carrying that same Gospel toward Asia.<\/strong><\/p>\n Much of this journey follows or intersects with the ancient Camino Franc\u00e9s<\/strong>.<\/p>\n N\u00e1jera.<\/p>\n Santo Domingo de la Calzada.<\/p>\n Fr\u00f3mista.<\/p>\n Burgos.<\/p>\n Santiago itself.<\/p>\n For more than a thousand years, these places have welcomed pilgrims traveling westward toward Compostela.<\/p>\n For groups wishing for a more active pilgrimage, the itinerary may be adapted to incorporate selected walking sections of the Camino de Santiago<\/strong> without requiring the group to walk the entire route.<\/p>\n This makes the journey particularly suitable for parishes with pilgrims of different ages and levels of physical ability.<\/p>\n Northern Spain is a land of ancient monasteries, pilgrimage roads, mountain sanctuaries and cities shaped by centuries of faith.<\/p>\n At Leyre<\/strong>, history and monastic prayer meet.<\/p>\n At Javier<\/strong>, a young nobleman was born who would become one of the great missionaries of the Church.<\/p>\n At Silos<\/strong>, Benedictine prayer continues within walls that have heard the Psalms for centuries.<\/p>\n At Santo Toribio<\/strong>, the Cross stands at the heart of the pilgrimage.<\/p>\n At Covadonga<\/strong>, Marian devotion rises from the mountains.<\/p>\n At Oviedo<\/strong>, pilgrims encounter relics associated with the Passion of Christ.<\/p>\n And finally, in Santiago<\/strong>, we arrive before an Apostle.<\/p>\n It is a journey across northern Spain.<\/p>\n But more importantly, it is a journey through different expressions of the same faith.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The published program is a general description and may be adjusted due to availability, operational requirements, local conditions, or the group\u2019s needs.
