This makes it an excellent option for Catholic groups looking for a manageable Camino that still provides a genuine multi-day walking pilgrimage.

The route combines Galician countryside, historic towns, ancient churches, stone crosses, forests and centuries of Christian pilgrimage tradition. It also passes through Padrón, a place intimately connected with the tradition of St. James and the arrival of his remains in Galicia.

Throughout the journey, walking becomes part of the spiritual experience: time for prayer, sacrifice, fellowship and reflection, culminating in the emotional arrival at the Cathedral of Santiago and the tomb of the Apostle.

The program can be adapted for parishes, Catholic organizations, schools, families, young adults and pilgrims of different physical abilities, including the possibility of support transportation.

Why Choose the Portuguese Way?

The Camino Portugués is an excellent alternative to the French Way for first-time and returning pilgrims alike.

The final route from Tui offers a particularly attractive balance: it is long enough to experience the genuine rhythm of a walking Camino, yet compact enough to incorporate into an approximately 11-day international pilgrimage from the United States.

It is also distinguished by its strong historical connection with Portugal and the medieval Christian pilgrimage tradition, while places such as Tui, Pontevedra and especially Padrón give the route its own spiritual and cultural identity.

For parish groups, it can become a powerful opportunity to step away from everyday routines and spend several days together in prayer, Eucharist, fellowship and pilgrimage.

Adapt the Camino to Your Parish or Group

Every Camino can be adapted.

Pilgrim Groups Travel can organize the Portuguese Way for parishes, dioceses, Catholic schools, youth ministries, families, associations and private groups, adjusting the program according to available dates, budget, ages and physical abilities.

For older pilgrims or groups with different walking abilities, we can incorporate a support vehicle throughout the route. Pilgrims can therefore walk according to their abilities while remaining part of the same spiritual pilgrimage.

The objective is not to turn the Camino into an athletic competition.

We walk what we can.
