She was a young peasant girl from a small village in northeastern France who believed that God was asking something extraordinary of her.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1157\" data-end=\"1411\">Born in <strong data-start=\"1165\" data-end=\"1184\">Domr\u00e9my in 1412<\/strong>, Joan grew up during one of the darkest periods of French history. The Hundred Years&#8217; War had divided the country, much of France was under English or allied control, and the future King Charles VII had still not been crowned.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1413\" data-end=\"1627\">Against this background, Joan began to experience what she described as the voices of <strong data-start=\"1499\" data-end=\"1585\">St. Michael the Archangel, St. Catherine of Alexandria and St. Margaret of Antioch<\/strong>, calling her to an extraordinary mission.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1629\" data-end=\"1685\">At approximately seventeen years old, she left her home.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1687\" data-end=\"1856\">Her journey would take her from <strong data-start=\"1719\" data-end=\"1780\">Domr\u00e9my to Vaucouleurs, Chinon, Orl\u00e9ans and finally Reims<\/strong>, where she witnessed the coronation of Charles VII in Notre-Dame Cathedral.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1858\" data-end=\"2033\">Her mission would ultimately lead to captivity, trial and martyrdom at <strong data-start=\"1929\" data-end=\"1938\">Rouen<\/strong>, where Joan was burned at the stake on May 30, 1431. She was approximately nineteen years old.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2035\" data-end=\"2073\">But that was not the end of her story.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2075\" data-end=\"2231\">Her conviction was later overturned in a rehabilitation trial, and almost five centuries after her death, Joan was canonized by the Catholic Church in 1920.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2233\" data-end=\"2284\">This pilgrimage follows that extraordinary journey.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2286\" data-end=\"2582\">We will stand in the village where Joan was born, pray in the church where she was baptized, follow her journey toward the king, enter the cathedral where she witnessed his coronation, visit Orl\u00e9ans\u2014the city forever associated with her mission\u2014and finally reach Rouen, where she offered her life.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2584\" data-end=\"2827\">Along the way, we will also discover some of the greatest spiritual treasures of Catholic France: <strong data-start=\"2682\" data-end=\"2826\">Notre-Dame de Paris, Mont-Saint-Michel, St. Th\u00e9r\u00e8se of Lisieux, the Miraculous Medal, St. Vincent de Paul, Sacr\u00e9-C\u0153ur and Chartres Cathedral<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p She understood it as the fulfillment of the mission entrusted to her by God: to help Charles reach Reims and receive his coronation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5500\" data-end=\"5878\">Standing inside the cathedral allows us to understand the extraordinary distance Joan had traveled\u2014not merely geographically, but spiritually\u2014from an unknown teenage girl in Domr\u00e9my to a witness at one of the defining events of French history.
