Depending upon arrival schedules, there may be time for an initial walk through the historic center.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4029\" data-end=\"4135\">This evening we gather for our welcome dinner and introduction to the spiritual meaning of the pilgrimage.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4137\" data-end=\"4214\"><strong data-start=\"4137\" data-end=\"4176\">Dinner and overnight in Valladolid.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1du1wie\" data-start=\"4221\" data-end=\"4252\">DAY 3 \u2014 The Crown of Thorns Valladolid \u2022 Monastery of Santa Espina \u2022 Oviedo<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4305\" data-end=\"4434\">Our encounter with the relics of the Passion begins with one of the most powerful images of Good Friday: <strong data-start=\"4410\" data-end=\"4433\">the Crown of Thorns<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4436\" data-end=\"4685\">We travel to the historic <strong data-start=\"4462\" data-end=\"4491\">Monastery of Santa Espina<\/strong>, founded in the 12th century, where a relic traditionally venerated as a <strong data-start=\"4565\" data-end=\"4599\">thorn from the Crown of Christ<\/strong> has been preserved and honored for generations.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4687\" data-end=\"4794\">The Gospel tells us that the soldiers placed a crown of thorns upon the head of Jesus, mocking Him as King.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4796\" data-end=\"4925\">Here the pilgrim is invited not simply to observe a historic relic, but to contemplate the humiliation freely accepted by Christ:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4927\" data-end=\"4956\"><strong data-start=\"4927\" data-end=\"4956\">\u201cHail, King of the Jews.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4958\" data-end=\"5060\">Time will be dedicated to prayer and, whenever arrangements permit, celebration of the Holy Eucharist.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5062\" data-end=\"5174\">We continue north through the landscapes of Spain toward <strong data-start=\"5119\" data-end=\"5129\">Oviedo<\/strong>, ancient capital of the Kingdom of Asturias.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5176\" data-end=\"5211\"><strong data-start=\"5176\" data-end=\"5211\">Dinner and overnight in Oviedo.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"11swa5t\" data-start=\"5218\" data-end=\"5255\">DAY 4 \u2014 The Holy Shroud of Oviedo \u2022 Oviedo<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"5267\" data-end=\"5358\">Today we encounter one of the most fascinating relics associated with the burial of Christ.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5360\" data-end=\"5504\">At the magnificent <strong data-start=\"5379\" data-end=\"5408\">Cathedral of San Salvador<\/strong>, we enter the historic Holy Chamber, home to the <strong data-start=\"5458\" data-end=\"5503\">Santo Sudario \u2014 the Holy Shroud of Oviedo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5506\" data-end=\"5674\">The cloth has been venerated for centuries as the cloth associated by tradition with the face of Christ following the Crucifixion.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5676\" data-end=\"5899\">Our visit also introduces us to the extraordinary collection of relics preserved in Oviedo, including the historic <strong data-start=\"5791\" data-end=\"5803\">Holy Ark<\/strong> and the traditional <strong data-start=\"5824\" data-end=\"5860\">Jar of the Wedding Feast at Cana<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5901\" data-end=\"5975\">This becomes a day centered upon the mystery of Christ&#8217;s death and burial.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"5977\" data-end=\"6107\">Time for <strong data-start=\"5986\" data-end=\"6031\">Holy Mass, personal prayer and veneration<\/strong>, followed by an opportunity to discover Oviedo&#8217;s beautiful historic center.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"6109\" data-end=\"6144\"><strong data-start=\"6109\" data-end=\"6144\">Dinner and overnight in Oviedo.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"12ytviz\" data-start=\"6151\" data-end=\"6209\">DAY 5 \u2014 The True Cross Oviedo \u2022 Covadonga \u2022 Santo Toribio de Li\u00e9bana \u2022 Santander<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"6272\" data-end=\"6329\">Our journey today brings together <strong data-start=\"6306\" data-end=\"6328\">Mary and the Cross<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"6331\" data-end=\"6451\">We first travel through the mountains of Asturias to <strong data-start=\"6384\" data-end=\"6397\">Covadonga<\/strong>, one of the great spiritual places of northern Spain.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"6453\" data-end=\"6566\">Here, surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery, we visit the <strong data-start=\"6513\" data-end=\"6565\">Holy Cave and Sanctuary of Our Lady of Covadonga<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"6568\" data-end=\"6790\">Mary accompanied Christ to Calvary and remained at the foot of the Cross. Her presence within our pilgrimage reminds us that contemplation of the Passion is inseparable from the Mother who remained faithful beside her Son.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"6792\" data-end=\"6898\">We then continue through the spectacular landscapes of northern Spain toward <strong data-start=\"6869\" data-end=\"6897\">Santo Toribio de Li\u00e9bana<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"6900\" data-end=\"7109\">Here pilgrims encounter one of the great treasures of Spanish Christianity: the <strong data-start=\"6980\" data-end=\"6997\">Lignum Crucis<\/strong>, venerated as a major surviving fragment of the <strong data-start=\"7046\" data-end=\"7070\">True Cross of Christ<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"7111\" data-end=\"7189\">Before the Cross, our pilgrimage reaches one of its deepest moments of prayer.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"7191\" data-end=\"7271\">The instrument of Roman execution became, through Christ, the sign of salvation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"7273\" data-end=\"7339\">Time for veneration and prayer before continuing toward Santander.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"7341\" data-end=\"7379\"><strong data-start=\"7341\" data-end=\"7379\">Dinner and overnight in Santander.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 data-section-id=\"1uwnokk\" data-start=\"7386\" data-end=\"7443\">DAY 6 \u2014 From Northern Spain to Our Lady of the Pillar<\/h1>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"18pebeg\" data-start=\"7444\" data-end=\"7478\">Santander \u2022 La Rioja \u2022 Zaragoza<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"7480\" data-end=\"7538\">After breakfast, we begin our journey toward <strong data-start=\"7525\" data-end=\"7537\">Zaragoza<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"7540\" data-end=\"7836\">Along the way, we travel through <strong data-start=\"7573\" data-end=\"7585\">La Rioja<\/strong>, one of Spain&#8217;s most celebrated wine regions. Depending upon the final program, our journey can include a winery visit and tasting, allowing pilgrims to enjoy another dimension of Spain&#8217;s culture and hospitality.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"7838\" data-end=\"7867\">We then continue to Zaragoza.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"7869\" data-end=\"7995\">Here stands the magnificent <strong data-start=\"7897\" data-end=\"7935\">Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar<\/strong>, one of the great Marian sanctuaries of the Catholic world.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"7997\" data-end=\"8225\">According to ancient tradition, while the Virgin Mary was still living, she appeared to <strong data-start=\"8085\" data-end=\"8110\">St. James the Greater<\/strong> as he evangelized Hispania, leaving a column \u2014 the <em data-start=\"8162\" data-end=\"8169\">Pilar<\/em> \u2014 as a sign of her maternal presence and encouragement.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"8227\" data-end=\"8369\">For our pilgrims, Zaragoza becomes a reminder that the apostolic origins of Christianity in Spain and devotion to Mary are deeply intertwined.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"8371\" data-end=\"8414\">Time for prayer before the <strong data-start=\"8398\" data-end=\"8663\">celebration of Holy Mass<\/strong> and further prayer at the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"8727\" data-end=\"8796\">We then depart toward the Mediterranean and the city of <strong data-start=\"8783\" data-end=\"8795\">Valencia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"8798\" data-end=\"8889\">Our arrival brings us closer to the final great relic of our journey: the <strong data-start=\"8872\" data-end=\"8888\">Holy Chalice<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"8891\" data-end=\"9049\">Before encountering it, however, we begin discovering Valencia, a city where two thousand years of history, Mediterranean culture and Catholic tradition meet.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"9051\" data-end=\"9223\">Depending upon schedules, our visit may include a panoramic data-end=\"9529\">We travel south toward the holy city of <strong data-start=\"9440\" data-end=\"9463\">Caravaca de la Cruz<\/strong>, one of Spain&#8217;s great centers of devotion to the Cross of Christ.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"9531\" data-end=\"9667\">The city developed around the veneration of the <strong data-start=\"9579\" data-end=\"9604\">Vera Cruz de Caravaca<\/strong>, preserved within its sanctuary overlooking the historic town.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"9669\" data-end=\"9706\">Our visit is deliberately devotional.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"9708\" data-end=\"9902\">Pilgrims may begin at the <strong data-start=\"9734\" data-end=\"9759\">Church of El Salvador<\/strong> and, when circumstances permit, ascend toward the Sanctuary, recalling that Christian pilgrimage itself is an image of our journey toward God.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"9904\" data-end=\"10101\">At the Basilica-Sanctuary we will have the opportunity to participate in the <strong data-start=\"9981\" data-start=\"10903\" data-end=\"10943\">Basilica of Our Lady of the Forsaken<\/strong>, one of the principal centers of Marian devotion in Valencia.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"11007\" data-end=\"11048\">Finally, we enter <strong data-start=\"11025\" data-end=\"11047\">Valencia Cathedral<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"11050\" data-end=\"11321\">Within a chapel of this ancient cathedral is preserved the <strong data-start=\"11109\" data-end=\"11143\">Santo C\u00e1liz \u2014 the Holy Chalice<\/strong>, an ancient cup that has been venerated for centuries and traditionally associated with the chalice used by Jesus at the <strong data-start=\"11265\" data-end=\"11280\">Last Supper<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"11323\" data-end=\"11365\">Here our entire pilgrimage comes together.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"11367\" data-end=\"11445\">Before entering His Passion, Christ took the cup and gave it to His disciples:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"11447\" data-end=\"11515\"><strong data-start=\"11447\" data-end=\"11515\">\u201cThis is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"11517\" data-end=\"11551\">The Eucharist anticipated Calvary.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"11553\" data-end=\"11774\">And so our journey from the <strong data-start=\"11581\" data-end=\"11618\">Crown of Thorns, Shroud and Cross<\/strong> ultimately brings us to the <strong data-start=\"11647\" data-end=\"11658\">Chalice<\/strong> \u2014 and to the Eucharistic mystery through which the sacrifice of Christ remains sacramentally present to His
